Sapper Frazer Smith, aged 19, is currently training to become a Logistic Specialist in the Royal Engineers and is one of the stars of the Army’s new “This is Belonging" adverts. The ad features Frazer working on his pull ups, being supported by other soldiers to fully complete the exercise.
Frazer said: “When I first joined the Army, I found the physical side of things pretty tough. However, I received amazing support from my fellow soldiers and Officers from day one, and found it really motivating to work with others to improve my strength and fitness. There really is a sense of togetherness in everything we do and even in the very short time I have been in the Army I feel like I have made many friends for life. For anyone who joins the Army, I would recommend giving every opportunity your all as there are so many different things to get involved in. I can’t wait to go skiing in France next year and develop my adventure training skills, as well as see what other opportunities present themselves.”
Lt Jenni Stephenson, Troop Commander, Royal Artillery is one of six women to have become the first all-female group to ski coast-to-coast across Antarctica pulling an 80kg sledge behind them.
Jenni, said: “The Ice Maiden expedition is definitely one of the best things I’ve ever been involved with. I’m just an ordinary person, with no real skiing experience before I joined the Army and I wanted to see what I could do and achieve. The Army provides people with the opportunity to get involved in so many exciting activities and through these you form a real bond with those you are sharing the experience with. I would thoroughly recommend that anyone looking for adventure, challenge and lifelong friends to consider a career in the Army.”
Battlegroup Engineer, Joanna Ellett, aged 25, is one of the stars of the Army’s new “This is Belonging” adverts. The ad features Joanna leading a group of people, just off a helicopter, to their exercise/operation.
Joanna said: “When I was younger people didn’t believe I had what it took to be in the Army, they thought I didn’t come from the right background. Those comments never stopped me pursuing my dream to be in the Army, and as a Battlegroup Engineer and Driver of the Army Bobsleigh team, I have been supported through all of my achievements. The encouragement and guidance that I have received has helped me to achieve amazing things both in my Army and sporting careers. The Army is an inclusive organisation that feels more like a family to me than an employer. Next year I already have many exciting things lined up. I can’t wait to compete in the Army and inter-services bobsleighing championships across January and February which I am currently training for.”
